metro manila

Once in a while, you see a post that just makes you smile. This video post by jolengs is one of them.

while i was taking footage of this video, a security guard approached me and ordered to stop taking pictures. i replied back that am not,and instead blurted out that i am shooting a video to let the whole world know how beautiful our country is. i smiled back and continue on my shooting. oh yes it was a beautiful sunny day! ;p

On the same weekend, a friend made this post about a dream:

I have a dream that one day, when foreigners think about Metro Manila, they do not think of the slums that are forever the image shown by international TV, but of this beautiful skyline that is perhaps one of the best in the world.

He’s talking about this photo:

This is the view from the heli pad of the GCC Building, Ortigas. The green area on the bottom right is Wack-wack Golf, host of many International golf tournaments. Around it is the Wack-wack Village. On the far right is the Makati Business District

These two posts make me homesick. I’m now going to hunt for more good Manila (and Philippines) photos/videos.

2012

While trying to whittle away unread items from Google Reader, I came across Rusell Beatie’s entry on the upcoming movie 2012. The trailer says “find out the truth, google search: 2012″ instead of the usual url link to the official movie site.

This isn’t really unusual. More and more ads are placing search keywords instead of actual urls. It’s easier to remember (and keeps SEOs employed, hehe).  What’s unusual, though, is that googling for 2012 won’t bring up the movie web site, but links to the supposed mayan doomsday prophecy we’ve all heard since we were kids.

I’m not really that interested in post-apocalyptic science fiction films (I haven’t seen The Day After Tomorrow), but seeing the trailer made me wonder : if you this scene was happening right now, in front of you, what would you do?

(of course, since I haven’t even finished setting up this blog, I don’t expect anyone to answer :p )

Golden Pavillion

pond golden sky blue japan rokuon-ji zen temple gold kyoto kinkakuji pavilion travel

I’m now trying out if the photoblog-style theme the lightbox and photrade will work together. This is a photo of Kinkakuji ( Golden Pavilion ) that was  mentioned in a previous post.

Rokuon-ji (deer garden temple) or more popularly known as Kinkaku-ji ( golden pavilion temple) is a popular tourist destination in Kyoto. The top two stories of the building are covered with pure gold leaf. On the roof is a chinese phoenix. Originally built in 1397, it was burned down several times, the most recent one being in 1950.

Around the temple is a really beautiful Japanese garden. The pond in front of it is aptly called Kyoko-michi (Mirror pond).

I’d love to take a photo of this spot in winter.

Autumn Fantasy

photo of leaves in autumn

A quick post. Got this blog set up earlier this morning. Selected a photoblog-oriented theme. This is a test post for images. The image is from a recent trip to Kyoto. This one was taken in the gardens near Ginkakuji (“Silver Temple”)

The temple was under renovation, so I just took pictures of mostly the autumn scenes. The garden in Ginkakuji is much better than the one in Kinjakuji (“Golden Temple”).
