Love Sculpture in Shunjuku

The Love sculpture by Robert Indiana in the Shinjuku I-LAND Tower (map). There are several duplicates around the world.

This is a 5-second exposure and the photo has been flipped horizontally. I shot from behind as the front of the sculpture is the street intersection – no space to work on! The photo is not as clean as I’d like. Too dark? Lens? I might try it again with the L-lens one day.

It’s always fun to walk around the ueno-okachimachi area. A Smörgåsbord of scenes.

From friendly sidewalk chats,

to lively and heated discussions over beer.

trains in Japan are THAT fast

I think this is caused by slow scanline processing on the iPhone cam ( just guessing here). I wonder if the same problem still exists on the 3GS.

Windows Explorer on the iPhone

Well, not really. I was browsing through stuff on Google News. From some news site, a dialog box opened, warning that I had a virus and asked if I wanted to clean it or not.

Yeah, right.

After pressing the Cancel button (I don’t think it mattered which one you pressed), the following page appeared. The bottom part is animated so that it “seems” to be scanning.

A Story of Love and Hate

Just watched the documentary   Japan: A Story of Love and Hate.

I read a lot of stories like these every once in a while. Once thing that strikes me is how alone they are – no family, little friends. Back home, I’ve met (and known) some people who are a lot poorer and worse off than Naoki in the story, but I somehow feel they are more content. Happier even.

Here’s the documentary playlist on youtube and the post on Tokyo Times.

Super Yosakoi

Mark your calendars. Three of the best summer festivals are happening soon. Like every year, though, they just HAD to schedule them on the same weekend. Ugh.

Super Yosakoi is a modern rendition of the traditional summer dance, Awa-Odori.  The performers can become highly energetic! It’s exhilirating to watch  and a breath of fresh air compared to the usual dance festivals where people lazily move to the music.

When: 8/29 and 8/30

Where: Harajuku and Yoyogi Park .
