[003/365] Body Clock

body clock

My body clock is fried (grilled?). And vacation is almost over. I was up until 10am this morning before I hit bed.

I’m gonna have to force myself to sleep in an hour or so.

On the other hand, I’ve almost finished organizing the photos for last year. Almost. There is still a big batch of photos from the Asakusa Samba parade that I have yet to look at.

[002/365] Commute

commuteCentral Gate, Ueno Station

Aileen, a friend coming back from a holiday trip to Yamagata asked to be fetched from the Ueno station. The handle to her huge huge bag broke and she needed some help carrying it. I needed the exercise too, so I walked from Minowa Station to Ueno Station.

I borrowed Meema’s fisheye lens and took a few shots along the way and on the station. While waiting for Aileen at the ticket gate, I played around with long exposure shots. This is 2.5seconds at f/22.6, handheld.

There was a more interesting shot: a man was standing still amongst a blurred crowd of commuters. But I was too far from him (he was inside the gate) and the wide angle of the fisheye made him really small. Oh, well.

sunshine 60 road

While waiting for meema, I was able to do a brief photowalk at the Sunshine 60 road in Ikebukuro (street view).  It was full of people and of hard-working placard-carrying japanese trying to coax people into buying bargains, donating blood or going inside a manga kissa.

Does anyone know if the japanese have a particular term/word for these people?

i'm lovin' it

Had a quick breakfast at McDo this morning while waiting for a friend’s bus to arrive (6:45 am). A bite into a hot hash brown feels divine on a cold cold autumn(winter-ish) morning.

This guy will never probably know someone took a photo of him today. I’m probably in several pictures somewhere out in the internets. I wonder how long before we can have a useful media search tool.

OK OK. I need to study and I’m just procrastinating.

Golden Pavillion

pond golden sky blue japan rokuon-ji zen temple gold kyoto kinkakuji pavilion travel

I’m now trying out if the photoblog-style theme the lightbox and photrade will work together. This is a photo of Kinkakuji ( Golden Pavilion ) that was  mentioned in a previous post.

Rokuon-ji (deer garden temple) or more popularly known as Kinkaku-ji ( golden pavilion temple) is a popular tourist destination in Kyoto. The top two stories of the building are covered with pure gold leaf. On the roof is a chinese phoenix. Originally built in 1397, it was burned down several times, the most recent one being in 1950.

Around the temple is a really beautiful Japanese garden. The pond in front of it is aptly called Kyoko-michi (Mirror pond).

I’d love to take a photo of this spot in winter.

Autumn Fantasy

photo of leaves in autumn

A quick post. Got this blog set up earlier this morning. Selected a photoblog-oriented theme. This is a test post for images. The image is from a recent trip to Kyoto. This one was taken in the gardens near Ginkakuji (“Silver Temple”)

The temple was under renovation, so I just took pictures of mostly the autumn scenes. The garden in Ginkakuji is much better than the one in Kinjakuji (“Golden Temple”).
